Abstract

The question of the optimal location of technical stations on the railway network plays an important role in increasing the effective use of locomotives and reducing the costs of their use. The technical stations provide services to and repair locomotives, ensuring that passenger and freight operations are unobtrusive. One important factor in choosing the location of the maintenance stations is the length of the traction shoulder, which is the distance the locomotive can travel without maintenance. The main purpose of this work, given the traction shoulder of the locomotives, is to tax the locomotives, which affects the optimal location of the technical stations.  This research work examined parameters such as the periodicity of breakdowns, locomotive types, distance of routes, cost of Service and train traffic schedules. Based on this data, a mathematical model for determining rational points has been proposed when placing technical stations along the railway network. This proposed model involves the use of optimization techniques to minimize locomotive congestion for more than a period and reduce maintenance time. Such solutions, together with the introduction and costs of use, are estimated the economic efficiency with which the productivity of the system is obtained.  This research may be productive for railway companies in the development of logistics schemes and infrastructure upgrades, and increases the reliability of the transports, as well as increasing efficiency in the use of locomotives in the future.
